Black★Rock Shooter with ★Rock Cannon

Photobucket
Continued from my post on 1/3 scale ★Rock Cannon, more photos with my Black★Rock Shooter with her big gun here!

As before, taking photos of dolls seem no easy task. It's tougher to set up due to the size of the doll, and the amount of lighting required which I admittedly don't have enough of. However, my sister did try to use the limited light source in order to bring out shadows to portray the character in a "darker" way.

My sister wants to put more shadows to the setup in order to give the character more of a mysterious and dark mood.

A portrait shot, something I haven't done for my doll before.

Taken from my Galaxy Nexus phone, which gives off a different mood in terms of the colour.

Taking advice from Yui, I tried to put some chains on Black★Rock Shooter to go with the ★Rock Cannon. While I don't have proper black chains as seen in the original illustrations by huke yet, these trouser chains I have will do for now.

Even though she is actually lying down on these 2 pictures, she does look kind of convincing as if she's standing up posing here.

Behind the scenes while doing the portrait shot. Not the most elegant setup for sure, but I like to improvise as much as I can ^^;

No action shots are available, since the ★Rock Cannon is pretty heavy, and it takes up a lot of space if it were to be posed in an angle greatly different to the doll! Well, that's where the smaller action figures come in more handy in doing such poses as dolls aren't really suitable for it afterall ^^;

  1. Nice set of shots even under the conditions you had. I like your sisters idea of a 'darker' view of her as well.

    Setting up a photo shoot is hard for anyone. I am using a glass display case, white poster board and 2 light sources. It still doesn't show always in the best light even with all this.

  2. Hmm, perhaps taking pictures of Gunpla is not bad compare to taking pics of dolls ^^;.

    The idea of giving BRS a darker look is interesting, even though I usually view her alignment rather ambiguous. It gives an aura of mystery, leaving you wonder whether she's approachable or not.

    I only have one desk lamp, and since I lack any reflector boards I have to improvise and use whatever big and white (or plain and light in colour) as a compromise. Luckily I had my sister to help out the photo shoot this time as I would have much difficulty in doing it all by myself... orz

    @ Tom:
    Oh yes I'd say so! At least it takes up less space to take pictures of Gunpla, and that it's easier to do so too!

    On the other hand, I can't seem to leave comments on your blog. Would you kindly check your spam filter please?

  4. Hehe, yeah, taking photos of DDs can be a challenge compared to figures due to their size ^^; Personally, I try to use natural light first and then add in extra light as necessary but that's not always possible.

    Anyway, she looks great! Glad you posted photos of her. That custom outfit really does look nice. I still kind of want a BRS too xD

    The size of the 1/3 scale dolls means that the lighting has to be quite specific for the camera, and it's difficult to achieve in small spaces with limited outdoor access.

    The SQ-LAB BRS outfit set is a little hard to come by as I don't see it being put up on auction these days, but I did see one being sold on figure.fm not too long ago. Do go for it if you do feel to want one! X3
