False Gundam News

Photobucket
False news. We get these now and then, even on Gundam-related ones. Some are more convincing than others, and here are a few I remember that got circulated around before in the past. Let's see how many you've seen them before!

HG 1/144 Alvaaron, the "Gold GM" that appears at the end of Gundam 00 Season 1.

Gotta say that this image fooled a lot of people back in the days. While a HG model did not materialise at the end, there is an action figure from Robot Damashii, which has similar size to that of an HG model.

HGUC 1/144 Messala from Gundam Zeta

Here is a comment from Ngee Khiong quoted from his old blog:
See the price? It says 2,400 Yen without tax and 2,448 Yen inclusive of tax. But it should be 2,520 Yen instead. Bandai would never make that kind of mistake, when it comes to pricing. ^^;
Also, the image was later found out to be based on a scratch built model.

MG Gundam X, of which the image actually uses the exact format as that of MG GN-X's when it was first announced ^^;

1/1 Gundam statue in Shizuoka, which "suppoedly" collapsed after the earthquake in March 2011. Due to the widespread destruction the earthquake and the consequent tsunami caused to the east coast of Japan, a lot of people really believed that the Gundam statue collapsed. The image was actually based on an older picture where the Gundam was still under construction in Odaiba back in 2009.

Oh, and has anyone heard of this "Gundam SEED Fortune", which was "supposedly" the third season of Gundam SEED that takes place 5 years after Gundam SEED Destiny? It caused quite a stir back in 2006. And I wonder whether the movie sequel will actually take place in the future?

I am sure that there are more such news that may trick us in the future. What if you see one and think it's a little suspicious? Look around on the Internet and possibly those on more reliable sources. I personally go to sites such as 早耳ガンプラ情報局, CYBERGUNDAM, and GUNDAM GUY for information, though there are more that you can rely on I'm sure. If there are a lot of pictorial evidences or that a lot of people are talking about it in certainty, then you may be heading for the right direction, otherwise take a pinch of salt and observe carefully!

  1. I think the HG Messala was the most believable one, had it wasn't for the numbers.

    Interesting list :).

  2. I remember the viral photo of the Gundam statue being damaged in the quake.

  3. I remember the collapsed Gundam after the earthquake. With all the news of things falling apart, it wasn't too hard to believe.

  4. At least we got a HG Gundam X, but I wish there was an actual MG Gundam X... I remember seeing that Gundam Seed on Ngee Khiong. For a while, I though it was real ^^;.

    There are still a number of Gryps Conflict MS that can make appearance on the HGUC line, and because of this the Messala does seem like a possible candidate (especially for times like now, as Hambrabi is announced, and others such as GM II and Nemo are now out). However the numbers were a giveaway that it's a fake (I wonder whether it's deliberate though).

    @ bluedrakon:
    The fallen Gundam statue did get circulated quite a lot last year. A bit of a nasty hoax if you ask me what I think of it.

    @ Nopy:
    The fallen statue picture almost got me at some point, but then I couldn't get confirmation from Japanese sources so I was hesistant about it. The widespread destruction does make people think for the worst though.

    @ Tom:
    Judging from an interview regarding on the future Gunplas last year, it appears that MG for Gundam X series is still on a rather low priority, which is a bit of a pity. Ngee Khiong mentioned Gundam SEED Fortune before? I don't recall that at all! :o

  6. I remembered there were fake news for 1:1 Gundam being damaged by thunder and lost its head and left arm (last shooting!). Well...for false Gunpla news, I do hope that PG Unicorn is real...

  7. @ Yui:
    Last shooting Gundam! I actually haven't seen that particular fake picture of 1:1 Gundam Statue yet. Too bad about the fake news on the PG Unicorn though. Well, maybe the opinions or the plans on such idea will change for Bandai in the future? One can still hope I guess.

  8. Lack of an MG X is really heartbreaking...

  9. @ rxsiu:
    Gundam X still has very few Gunpla. I wonder whether we will get to see any more of it (HG or MG) in the near future...?
