USS Boxer (LHD-4) in Hong Kong

US Navy's ampihibious assault ship USS Boxer (LHD-4) has paid a port visit in Hong Kong last week. I'd love to take some pictures myself, but I've come a day too late for it... OTL

The pictures in this post are from CYBERGUNDAM BLOG. The weather wasn't so brill in the past few days, but at least the photos look pretty good. It's not very often we get to see such visitors in Hong Kong!

The ship was moored next to the Ocean Terminal in Tsim Sha Tsui. There was no access to the ship under normal circumstances, but it was moored so close that one can easily take pictures of the ship along with aircrafts parked on the flight deck.

2 CH-53D Sea Stallion can be seen on the right, with a row of CH-46 Sea Knight on the left of the flight deck.

Mk 38 25mm weapons system, which is the naval version of the M242 Bushmaster. Thanks Anonymous for the correction!

Hong Kong gets such ship visits now and then. The last one before Boxer was the USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) aircraft carrier. Some had gained access to it via some connections, and seeing pictures of people posing in front of aircrafts such as the Super Hornet makes me really jealous >_<

I still can't believe that I have missed the oppurtunity to see it; hope I'll get to see one another day!

  2. That's awesome. Nothing cool of that sort ever comes to where I live.

  3. Sweet. I live in the "mid-west" of the US, so I'm nowhere near the oceans and never get to see the ships of our Navy.

  4. @ Tom:
It's quite unlikely for the same ship to visit the same place again in a short amount of time, but I guess it won't be too long until the next warship visit... Hopefully T_T

    @ Maggie:
Thank you for stopping by! Is your husband serving in the armed force? I wish those who are in active service the best of luck!

    @ Nopy:
I have a bit of a bad luck where most of such ship visits occur when I was not in Hong Kong. I really hope I can get to see one in person next time!

    @ korewagundam:
Hong Kong is pretty lucky to have such grand foreign visitors to come now and then! I still can't believe that I have managed to miss it last weekend; it was literally moored on one side of the Ocean Terminal, and one can get so close to it!

  5. Can I make a correction. The weapon you have named as a .50 cal anti-aircraft machine gun is actually a MK 38 25 MM machine-gun weapons system.

I am not too familiar with modern weaponry, especially with armaments, so I trust you on the correction there! Thanks for the comment!
