1/8 Sega Hatsune Miku

Photobucket
Got back home in Hong Kong 2 days ago and bought this figure in a local shop the next day (laughs). And so here it is my 4th scaled PVC figure - Hatsune Miku from Sega.

Photobucket
This is a prize item figure released by Sega in mid-April. Prize item figures are known for their low prices, and they can be seen in UFO catchers as well. I'm not sure what the official retail price is since the quoted price differes from one online shop to another, but I got mine roughly for a price of a figma. While I could have got it cheaper if I could get it earlier, but it's still quite good for a scaled figure I'd say.

Figure is sculpted by Miyagawa Takeshi (宮川武).

There are quite a few Hatsune Miku figures released so far, ranging from highly priced static ones, to lower priced prize items, to action figures like figma or even the Bandai x Max Factory limited Chogokin (to be released this October). The Good Smile Company one did tempt me a few times with its re-releases, but I somehow decided not to get it at the end. With this particular "Premium Figure" prize item released from Sega I have been eyeing this for a while since it came out, and finally decided to get it for myself when I got back home 2 days ago.

At the back of the box there is an illustrated instructions on assembling the figure. Just need to attach the ponytails, the base, and the holder for the ponytails, then you're all set.

Photobucket
And here's the figure fully assembled. For a 1/6 scale figure she stands about 26-27cm tall, which corresponds to ~162cm as mentioned on her official profile.

Now for the actual 'photoshoot'. I haven't really done one like this for static figures since Max Factory Shana (which is more than a year ago), so do bare with my sloppiness with the photos...

Front view.

Back view. You can see the clear fork-like piece that holds the two tips of the ponytails in place. While you can omit it out if you want, the ponytails are a little heavy and it's better to have something to hold them to reduce stress on the head where the ponytails are inserted.

Photobucket
Face. A young cute look with some blush marks on the cheeks.

Photobucket
Some details on her sleeves as well as the blue painted fingernails

Photobucket
Legs. You can see the fold marks just below the knees as well as above the shoes.

Photobucket
Photobucket
Fold marks are also seen on the waist on Miku's shirt. Here you can also see how her tie is floating in the air a bit to give a 'flowing' feel even though she's just standing and not in a dynamic pose.

I somehow really like the curves on her waist~

Photobucket
As a figure, this Sega prize item 1/6 scale Miku is quite tall by herself. Here's a comparison with the huge 1/7 ALTER Fate T Harlaown can give you an idea.

And no I haven't done a photoshoot of this Fate yet - I still have no idea how to do a one for her with her mindblowing size! @_@

Photobucket
Omake: The crude setup I did for the photoshoot - I literally used my bed as the backdrop with my desklamp doing the lighting, held by my big books to keep it in place on the soft and uneven surface. Yea the books here do show that my other interest which I don't mention very often on this blog. ^^;

Miku Miku <3

For a prize item, this Miku figure by Sega is pretty tall and is worth the money for the overall look. Sure, the paint job isn't top notch as you may have noticed here and there, and there are some rough surfaces (mainly on the ponytails) which can be a minor nuisance when viewed closely. Sure, if you compare with the products from bigger companies this figure may not shine as much, but being a "cheap and cheerful" figure I'd say I would recommend it if you are a fan of Miku and/or you want a tall Miku figure with a budget price. Prize item figures are also getting better and better these days too.

    1. Ah I saw this recently at one of the local stores. I didn't really see it much since I wasn't looking for a big Miku figure. I'm always surprised at Sega Prize's stuff. They look quite good even for cheaper figures. I find that some of my favourite Rei figures are from Sega. ^^

    2. A whole day of fun I suppose? And right after you came back from UK! Nice grab too with the Miku... it's quite expensive here in Can, but I have seen quite a few that were sold here at 45CAN = 300+HK$.
      Also, were you able to get the Shana book?
      Yes, jagged and unstructured sentences... just pulled an all nighter without sleep for 27hrs to complete an assignment. Continue to enjoy your break!

      I don't think much of the size (though it's larger than I have anticipated), but for the look and the general quality I am very satisfied with the price I get already (though I could have got it even cheaper if I could get it earlier). And yes prize item figures are really getting better these days. Those from Sega and Banpresto can even be nice alternatives to the pricier ones.

      @ robostrike:
      Oh 45CAD is indeed a little pricey... The cheapest one I saw in Mong Kok with Asuka was less than half the price of that! o_o;;

      And yes thanks again for the Shana novel with Noizi Ito's autograph! Haha don't worry about the jagged sentences; I am sure most people won't be in top condition after staying up for so long... ^^;

    5. I didn't know Sega's Miku looks so cute. I actually had her pre-ordered and cancelled her after that. I definitely agree with you that her price is cheap, super cheap as compared to the other makers. Now you made me regret .... :(

    6. @ K:
      Awesome indeed~ I can't complain for such good price. They can be a bit overlooked compared to the bigger figure brands, and I do think that they deserve more attention as well!

      @ softz:
      Ah that's a real pity :( As I said in previous replies prize item figures really are getting better nowadays. Can you still grab one somewhere? Retail price seems to be set at about 3500 Yen I think.

    7. I love the first photo in your review. She looks so cute. Much cuter than the GSC version...which doesn't look that exciting expression-wise.

      Even figures from those "big" companies (though I wouldn't call Sega/Bandai a "small" company) will have flaws in them. It's painful to see a paint scratch or something every time.

    8. @ Tommy:
      Yea this version of Miku has a younger and cuter face than the GSC one, which has more of an elegancy to it (I guess). For a great price for a great figure - it's a great purchase I'd say!

      Quality Check is always a major factor when it comes to scale PVC figures. While for expensive figures we would the finished product to be of very high quality, but I guess nothing is perfect, so being a perfectionist will definitely yield disappointments for anything s/he purchases... IMHO
