At last, I've managed to visit this year's Gundam Expo Hong Kong. It is being held in Metropolis Mall in Hung Hom (紅磡) from 18th December to 4th January. No admission fee is there to enter as it is in the lobby of the mall, and one can buy limited gunpla there too!
Bloggers Ngee Khiong and 暗黑熱血 has posted about the event too. Be sure to check them out!
As soon as you enter, you will be greeted by the large 00 Gundam and Exia statues~
Kids competing to build the 1/144 NG Blitz Gundam in shortest time
Timeline showing all the animated Gundam series aired since 1979.
SD Sangoku Gundam
This side of the display shows different models from Japanese modelers
And this side has models from Hong Kong. Some participated in the recent Dengeki Tournament featured in ACGHK 2008.
Lu Bu Tallgeese with motorbike??
Kids trying out the new Gundam Musou 2 on XBOX 360 on stage
Gundam Expo shop that is just near the exhibition
The limited MG G-3 originally exclusive to Chara Hobby 2008. Ngee Khiong must be dying for it now ^^
MG Sianju for 615HKD @_@
Other hard-to-get limited gunpla available as well, including 1/60 clear colour Exia Trans-Am mode, 1/144 HG clear colour Exia, 1/60 PG Zaku II with weapons
Various action figures brands from Robot Damashii to MSiA
The limited gattling gun for MG Unicorn! ADDED: Only for display though -_-
Various gunpla for Gundam 00
Various trading figures for Gundam 00
1/100 00 Raiser on display
A hasty macro shot I've managed to get before the crowd overtakes me. Turns out to be ok~
O Raiser. Dunno why they've painted the 'cockpit' area (sensor unit apparently) though.
GN Arms Type-E and Type-D
Limited 1/60 PG Zaku II with weapons
Playing Gundam War card games on the floor above
3 XBOX 360 consoles with Gundam Musou 2 for people to try out
The Expo shop from above. That's got enough gunpla for us to build for a lifetime ^^;
The exhibition from above. Notice the big "G" there~
The convention centre is under attack!
Well of course they are taking the pic for the Gundam girl rather than the 1/60 Exia clear colour Trans-Am mode ^^;;
Thanks for the great pictures Q, its like I was there!
ReplyDeleteI would love to get to one of these, but it would be an expensive trip from the states.
How cool does that Musha Z Gundam look?
nice coverage. any cool giveaway posters like last year?
ReplyDeleteGreat coverage. Love the Lu Bu Tallgeese on motorbike ^^
ReplyDeleteI see some really nice gundam there.
ReplyDelete@ Apt-1B:
ReplyDeleteGlad that you like it~ Gundam Expo Hong Kong is held annually, so there's always a next time for you. Might as well get tons of gunpla if you do come over!
@ gordon:
There's a Sianju poster and gold coin as a gift when you buy a MG Sianju there, but it costs 615HKD while it costs less than 500HKD in other shops -_-
@ gndynames:
The Lu Bu Tallgeese is awesome indeed~ It's like those Sangoku Gundams series mixed with the big mechs together!
@ valho:
It's not very big, but they've covered quite a lot of stuff; more than I've expected. Hope you like the coverage.
Even though I'm not a Gundam fan, I would have gone there just to experience in the world of Gundams. ^^
ReplyDeleteNeat coverage. ^^d
U left empty handed? I wouldn't be able to do that at any expo. lol
Very nice photos. ^^ Thanks for the coverage.
ReplyDeleteI have been dying for that MG G-3 for quite some time already, save by you XD
Nice photos form HK event, man love the gundam display over there especially when you still can grab the limited Gatling gun from the Unicorn novel.
ReplyDelete@ Optic:
ReplyDeleteI kinda left empty handed, with a miniture gunpla runner that I got from answering a quiz right, and a MG G-3 for Ngee Khiong. Though buying one of those tempts me to buy one more for myself right now >_<
@ Ngee Khiong:
No problem. Glad you like the photos. I got your email just now. Will send it in a day or two~
@ Starboykb:
Too bad the gatling gun is just for display; I haven't seen it being sold on the stalls. However it's still interesting to see it with my own eyes as they are pretty hard to get.
^^b I think you need to use flickr for the pictures as all of your pics say photobucket
ReplyDelete@ ajgamer:
ReplyDeleteThe bandwidth got exceeded on New Year's Eve, as I have mentioned on the next post, but I will move the coverage pics to another host when I have time. :o
Great coverage, Q ^^. It must've felt like heaven to be surrounded by so much Gundam... and real Gundam girls :D.
ReplyDelete@ Z:
ReplyDeleteHaha yea it's a nice little haven for gunotas, yet at the same time a place to introduce Gundam to the public (public area, free entrance).
The other haven would definitely be the display of entry models for Hong Kong Dengeki Tournament featured in the big fair in August. A lot of creative entries there, but no real Gundam girls unfortunately ^^;;
When all these Gundams are gathered in one place, they look very impressive! They're incredibly detailed.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice how they had a variety. Video games, trading figures, etc.
@ M12_Vinja:
ReplyDeleteThe variety there is nice indeed, as if they're giving an "All-About-Gundam" exhibition. Afterall it's aimed at the gunotas as well as the public :o
Sorry, weird question, but would you happen to know, remember how much a PG Zeta was during this event?
ReplyDeletePG Zeta was not an event exclusive item, unless you mean the PG Zaku II + Weapons (Animation Color Version). I can't remember the price, but I reckon it's about 1400 HKD (assuming 100 Yen = 10 HKD conversion rate, which is common for official event items sold in Hong Kong).
