Distant Worlds: music from FINAL FANTASY (in short Distant Worlds) is a symphony orchestra concert tour featuring music from each major title of the Final Fantasy video game series, with Arnie Roth conducting and composer Nobuo Uematsu making an appearance. After the initial successes with the concert tours within Japan and in the USA, the world tour Distant Worlds started in 2007 in Stockholm, and is continuing to perform in various places to this date.

Nobuo Uematsu is best known for composing music for early Final Fantasy series (sole composer for Final Fantasy I to IX, but also contributed to a few more titles afterwards with other composers). While he no longer works for Square-Enix (then Squaresoft), he still makes appearance as special guest for the Distant Worlds tour.

Tickets are now available at Hong Kong Ticketing as well as at Sound of Faeries Boutique. Prices range from 680HKD to 1680HKD, with the most expensive tickets allow you to be seated right in front of the stage, as well as a chance to meet Arnie Roth and Nobuo Uematsu personally for a photograph.

I listen to a fair amount of video game music these days, and I've been a fan of Final Fantasy's music. For years I long wished for such a concert to come to Hong Kong, and this is finally a dream coming true! Definitely going there with my sister!

    1. The wait is finally over! I've got my tickets booked too~ The tickets do cost a lot, but I think it's worth it for some quality symphony orchestral concert!

  2. That's the RAH!! Distant worlds 2011. But geez, that expo center is well out of the way!
Protip: If you want to meet the guests after the concert, pray!! They are really hard to get a hold of!!

Still, you're in for a really cool night. But hope for a little more balanced setlist. A little less FF8 and FF14 would be a good idea!

    1. That's the Royal Albert Hall?! Then no wonder the venue looks stunning in the picture!

Looking at the rep list in the official website, there are indeed a lot of songs from FF8, FF13, and FF14. Hope we will get an even list of songs from each title!

    2. yup, definitely the RAH. I can tell from the huge Organ in between the 2 screens which was used for "Dancing Mad"!

My pic was better tho! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v471/gundamjehutykai/random/distantworlds-1.jpg

As for the rep sheet, There's sadly, very little from FF games pre FF5 at the concerts and they really love FF8 and one winged angel from FF7, so expect those to feature heavily.
Personally, I don't like One winged angel and much prefer Jenova but expect lots of FF8 and 13 to feature with a load of FF7 and maybe some FF6. The rest will probably only show up as a medley or one-off.

  3. That would be so cool to hear and see.

My wife and son went to see an orchestra that was doing John Williams Movie music (Star Wars, Jaws, Jurassic Park...). They really enjoyed it and want to hopefully see more shows like that.

    1. Oh my goodness I somehow missed your comment! I am terribly sorry for that!

A concert featuring John Williams Movie music sounds really great! I remember watching Jurassic Park and listen to its music in the cinema many years ago, and looking back it's amazing how music can really brings atmosphere alive!
