Three Years of Daybreak

Photobucket
Before I knew it, the blog has now turned 3 years old. o_o

To the new visitors, I welcome you and thank you for stopping by.

To the returning readers, I thank you for coming back to my humble blog.

To be honest it's a little hard for me to imagine that I would manage to continue blogging for this long. Looking back retrospectively, this blog was (re)started during the time when there was a boom of similar blogs as encouraged by Danny Choo to blog for oneself. Not surprisingly, due to various reasons many blogs I follow are slowly fading away, be it that they have lost motivation, real life issues, or that they have moved on to the next big thing out there. Sadly some have disappeared completely without a word. I suppose things come and go, so it's just a matter of time really.

Admittedly, blogging is quite a time consuming activity, and with me being a slow reader and thinker, this makes everything take longer to do ^^; Having to catch up with my various kinds of hobby (from Gundam to little pretty girls aka bishoujos to military etc), as well as the blogs and other news online, it really can be a bit tiring!

But it's nice to share things out one enjoys in the form of personal blogs. You share things you like to people with common interest, exchange opinions, and make friends online this way, some even face-to-face eventually! That's what blogging is about I'd think. And it's nice to keep up this way.

One surprise hit was the McDonald Sasuke Toy post that I have made last September. The popularity of the post is mainly driven by reddit. A big thanks to those who share it out there for me. Put all those view counts and statistics gibberish aside, even though the content is just something I've shared from what I've found, it's very nice and heartwarming to see people leaving comments saying how a post like that enlightens their day or just brings a smile to their faces.

Given the fact that I am now in Hong Kong, it does mean that I have greater access to toys and easier too (compared to the days in the UK). Sure, I don't know how long I'll continue blogging for, but with my interest and hobby still around I don't see myself disappearing, at least in the near future. There are still a number of things I look forward to, be it the new Gundam THE ORIGIN animation, the figma WRS, or Ace Combat: Assault Horizon (yep I've been going into the Ace Combat series recently). This pretty much shows how mixed my interest has really been (despite the fact that I don't talk about some of them like military so often on the blog) - it's slowly turning into a spaghetti mess ^^;

Last but not least, I want to give a big thanks to all those who have continued to support me on the blogosphere, as well as on other medium such as twitter. Your comments, emails, or tweets are really appreciated and valued!

  1. Congratulations to your 3rd year anniversary, keep it up for many years to come. It has been a great joy reading your blog about your sharing of opinions regarding gunpla.

Now that you are in HongKong, I believed buying kits and supplies has become much more cheaper as compared when you were in UK, right?

  2. It sounds like you've had a fun 3 years. My 3rd anniversary is actually around the corner as well. I've seen many blogs come and go, but I'm glad to have met so many people with the same interests.

  3. Happy Daybreak the Third! It's great to see a blog stick around for this long bringing quality content. I've seen so many blogs disappear since I started and almost quit a few times myself. Hope we can see it through to a fourth and beyond ^^

  5. Wow time sure flies doesn't it? Hard to believe it's already three years ^^

Yeah I believe staying in Hong Kong does have it's advantages with all the toys easily available everywhere. It's getting hard for me to continue with my hobby as supplies are hard to come by in my corner of the world :(

  6. Well done for becoming an old blogger! The Birthdays definitely feel weird when I look back at my own blog. 4 years on and mine is still alive and kicking. I think I can count the number of blogs which are still active from around the time I started in 2 hands so I can see where you're coming from when you talk about those which have come and gone. Some have had a change in ownership so I don't count those. They're new blogs for me.

Keep on trucking and I'm sure the 4th birthday for your blog will creep up on you before you know it!

  7. Congratulations on your 3rd blogday! If it's your 3rd then that means mine is coming up as well. I was slowed down considerably this year... Many things had happened recently starting from this year. It happens I guess, but the fact that I had almost a post daily this week means something, right? ^^; Anyhooooo... Before I rant about myself again... Congratz on the third year and maybe we'll see more, yes? :D

  9. Well Congratulations my friend! 3 years is a great run so far! I truly enjoy reading your posts, and I look forward to continuing to do so. I do like the little community we as Gunpla bloggers have established on the web :)

  11. 3 years! That's 1 year ahead of when I started blogging... the whole DC movement really changed a lot of us to start our own blogs and continue our updates of our adventures through our hometown or travels. Meeting people on the net who can help certainly can make the destination a wonderful time as you almost get a travel guide who knows where you specifically want to go~ Hehehehe XD Will there be cake or just a thought celebration?
I'm planning a master's degree in HKU after I graduate next year so I will be staying in HK for 2 years if I get in. Wish me success~

  15. Congratulations on your three years of blogging! (although this is a bit late^^")

Haha I also blogged cause there was a boom due to dannychoo.

Blogging is quite time consuming but when you get comments, it makes you feel that it's worth the effort. Not only that, making comrades, being able to share interests with each other as you said.

I think I'm already at my 2nd year of blogging^^" but my first year, I didn't really blog much.

It's pretty sad how some bloggers just disappear like that, makes you wonder what happened to them.

Anyways! congratulations on 3 years of blogging and hope you keep this up!

  16. @ Jacques:
Thanks mate. I'm glad that you've enjoyed reading the posts on Gundam that pop up now and then.

I don't buy hobby related stuff in the UK; they are hard to come by, and are without a doubt very expensive in the first place. Being able to buy the models or figures back home in Hong Kong really does make things a lot more convenient now ^^

    @ Nopy:
It has been a fun ride so far. It does appear that a lot of us have started blogging in the summer time. Bloggers do come and go, but it's great to meet those with common interests as you've said!

    @ Persocom:
It's always great to see fellow bloggers like you still active since the "boom" several summers ago. I remember that you have been in a hiatus before, but it's great to see you back. Your 3rd anniversary is coming soon, right? I'll look forward to it!

    @ Yui:
Thanks man! Blogging consistently sure isn't easy! I do hope I can keep up with my interests and continue to share them out in the future!

    @ AstrayP03 (Zhe):
Time sure flies, and it feels a bit odd how it has been 3 years already.

There are some convenience in buying toys in Hong Kong, though I think that other places are slowly catching up as availability as well as fans and collectors become more worldwide. I remember you telling me how it is hard to get the stuff you want in where you are now, which is like me when I was in the UK and had to buy them all in one ago whenever I got to go back to Hong Kong!

    @ gundamjehutykai:
Thanks for the compliment, and gosh I've been called old already ^^; But then with many blogs come and go now the perspectives are starting to change.

It sure feels odd when one starts to look back and see how much has been blogged. It's nothing spectacular, yet to be able to continue blogging after all this time is quite something. Just as you said, as time flies maybe the next anniversary will come sooner than we've expected!

    @ Lightning Sabre:
Thanks! It's funny how we all started blogging around this time, and I recall how we have anniversary posts one blog after another XD

I understand that you have been through a lot of things recently, and it without a doubt would affect your hobbies as well as your real life. But it's great to see that you continue to keep up with interesting posts despite all that! Keep it up mate, and I look forward to your blog's anniversary!

    @ bd77:
Thanks man! Too bad that Sasuke is not mine - it's from a Taiwanese source. I really would like to have one hands-on so I can try balancing all sorts of stuff on him though!

  17. @ korewagundam:
Thank you for your comments and your support all this time! I do agree that as Gunpla bloggers we have established a small but close community in the blogosphere. Among the interests I have soaked myself into so far, I think Gundam is one of the most closely connected one for me so far with the bloggers!

    @ Tom:
Thanks man! The McDonald Sasuke post was unexpectedly popular, even though the content is forwarded from a Taiwanese forum post , but I'm really glad that people came out with a smile on their faces at the end. As for Ace Combat Assault Horizon, I do hope that it will turn out to be a good game, even though it's going to be set in the real world as opposed to the fictional Strangereal in most previous games. We shall see!

    @ Robostrike:
The "DC movement" does bring in a whole new wave of blogs and bloggers, and those who have continued blogging since the "boom" do thrive a lot and have consolidated themselves in the ACG communities, be it closely associated with DC or not. Nevertheless it's great to know new people and perhaps even meet up together, whch is always quite an experience I have to say.

There will be no cakes for anniversary I afraid, but a thought celebration is still a nice pat on the back for me ^^; It's great to know that you are planning to come to Hong Kong for further education! Good luck man, and I do hope you'll get to achieve you want to do!

    @ chubbybots:
It appears that it is getting less common for blogs to last through a long period of time now, but I do hope that we get to continue on, even if it's just a bit longer!

I sometimes worry about having spaghetti thoughts may cause me to lose focus, but strangely enough it's also this that keeps my interests fresh while I shift them around in my head!

    @ RIP666:
Hiya! Thanks for stopping by and dropping a comment! Nice to meet you too!

    @ seven6398:
    If I have assembled an MG and owned a Sasuke I would like to figure this out too. Sadly this Sasuke is not mine as mentioned in the post ^^;

You have made a good point on how it takes a lot of time and effort to build something up, yet it is so easy to terminate it at an instinct. As for the low points, I think most of us have come through that too, so you are definitely not alone on this. It's great to see each other continue to blog and share out their hobbies or thoughts.

Thanks for the comment man, and you too keep up with the good efforts there!

    @ tanoshimini:
    Haha thanks! It's never too late to comment; I always fall behind on reading blog posts these days ^^;

Didn't know that you too started blogging because of the "boom" :o As you've said comments really can help motivate bloggers, as it means that somebody really has taken the time to read what you've shared and give feedback, and you respond to the feedback. This reciprocation is what makes blogging enjoyable I think!
