Meet the Dreissens

Photobucket
It's been a while since I've first mentioned the 3 Dreissens. I said I will say a little bit more on them, so here it is.

Not much has been done to them other than that I've added some decals "01" to "03" on them.

Photobucket
The HGUC 1/144 Dreissen Gunpla kit was released in May for 2000 Yen. This mobile suit first appeared in Gundam ZZ TV series, and it reappared in Gundamn UC OVA series.

Story-wise the Dreissens are some sort of a descendant of Zeon's well known Dom, with the purple colour, bulky appearance, and the cross-like face. They first served under Harman Khan of Neo Zeon faction in UC0088. They reappeared 8 years later in UC0096 under remnents of two New Zeon movements called the "Sleeves", with their new decorations on the chest and the sleeves to show their new masters.

Photobucket
Dreissen in its original configuration as first seen in Gundam ZZ. The combined beam tomahawk and beam lance thing is pretty long; it's pretty much the height of Dreissen itself.

Photobucket
Back of the Dreissen. Everything of it is bulky.

Photobucket
The 3 tri-blades can be seen mounted on the backpack of the Dreissen.

Photobucket
The Dreissens' backpacks have been modified by UC0096 so that they can mount different weapon racks to suit different pilot's needs. Here a Dom's heat rod mount rack and a rack for the giant bazooka can be seen in place of two tri-blades. The Dreissen's giant bazooka is said to be based on Sinanju's bazooka.

I've left the heat rod uncoloured as adding a paint layer will obstruct it from fitting through the rack.

Photobucket
The beam tomahawk/lance also has its own rack too.

Photobucket
I may be years older than you Jegans, but I am no pushover!

Photobucket
Deploying tri-blades. The deployed tri-blades are separate parts from the packed ones, and if you have those clear rods from HGUC 1/144 Jagd Dogas or Sazabi you can connect them to the tri-blades and the Dreissen's backpack to show the tri-blades being deployed mid-air.

Photobucket
Just like HGUC 1/144 Jegan ECOAS type, each Dreissen kit comes with a little rack that you can store unused parts away, namely the weapon racks, the packed tri-blades, and the hands. There are closed fists parts as seen in this photo but I don't use them.

Photobucket
The beam tomahawk and beam lance can be separated. Well not quite so as the combined weapon is actually a whole separate weapon from its separated counterparts.

Photobucket
A hole is available at the bottom between the legs for action bases, but unlike many other kits there appears to be no parts to cover it up if action base is not used.

Photobucket
The cover of the 3-barrel beam cannon on either forearm can be 'moved' by removing the cover and place it in a different slot. The beam cannon itself does not move though.

Photobucket
Despite the fact the heat rod is not a weapon originally for the Dreissen, it is backward compatible with it, and it gives more of the Dom's homage to its far descendant.

Photobucket
And so here they are - the new Black Tri-Star. I want to give them a team name and perhaps give them some fictional background story, but I think I will keep that aside for now, except that the name "Henker" is floating on top of my head right now, which means "executioner" in German.

Size comparison time: A Dreissen next to a Stark Jegan from the same series.

A GM Kai in front of the Dreissen - the GM Kai looks like a little guy in front of the mean, "big boss" Dreissen... ^^;

Upon completion of the Dreissens, the first impression I had was that they are huge and bulky. Really bulky!

The Dreissen is far from being the most articulated model among the recent HGUC 1/144 releases. Like other Sleeves mobile suits those emblems on the sleeves and the chest of the Dreissen is quite an effort to do if one does not want to use the foil stickers. But the variety of the weapons is a big plus for the kit, and its size towering over other mobile suits is quite intimidating too!

  2. Can't wait for mine... =D

    Most articulated UC-based 1/144, eh?
    This should be interesting.

  3. @ LEon:
They have this "don't mess with me" feel to them - very badass I have to say!

    @ bd77:
*FAR* from from being the most articulated model. ^^; But Dreissen is still quite easy to pose with. Just don't expect it to do something really acrobatic for such a bulky MS XD

  6. @ Tom:
    lol I will try and get around to top coat them eventually ^^;

    @ chubbybots:
When I've first built it I felt it's kinda big overall, but it was only until I put something from the One Year War next to it I really knew the size differences there :o

Being a descendant of the Dom the Dreissen does fit very well to be the next Black Tri-Star as you said!

  7. Very nice Q! Great review! I like the Dreissen a lot and for me, they've always represented a challenge in games like SD Gundam because of their strong armor and weapons.

I really like that you added the 01, 02, and 03 decals on these guys, what a great homage to the Black Tri-Stars!

The Dreissen really caught my attention for me when the models are announced. The sheer volume along with the Dom design is pretty overwhelming, and it's definitely trying to prove itself to be no pushover!

I'm happy how those Kotobukiya decals turn out. It's simple but effective I gotta say!
