Final Fantasy XIII Trailers & Release Dates Confirmed

Photobucket
As many people may have known already, the release dates of highly anticipated Final Fantasy XIII (aka FFXIII) are confirmed.

Release Dates:
  • Japan - 17th December 2009
  • North America - 9th March 2010

    For those who wonder about the game's plot (including myself), here's what is written in the North America official site:

    Coccoon - a utopia in the sky.

    Its inhabitants believed their world a paradise.
    Under the Sanctum's rule, Cocoon had long known peace and prosperity.

    Mankind was blessed by its protectors, the benevolent fal'Cie, and believed that tranquil days would continue forever.

    Their tranquility was shattered with the discovery of one hostile fal'Cie.

    The moment that fal'Cie from Pulse - the feared and detested lowerworld - awoke from its slumber, peace on Cocoon came to an end.

    Fal'Cie curse humans, turning them into magic-wielding servants.

    They become l'Cie [i.e. the main characters] - chosen of the fal'Cie.

    Those branded with the mark of a l'Cie carry the burden of either fulfilling their focus or facing a fate harsher than death itself.

    A prayer for redemption.
    A wish to protect the world.
    A promise to challenge destiny.

    After thirteen days of fates intertwined, the battle begins.

    Final Fantasy titles are well known for their plots, music (especially those composed by Nobuo Uematsu), characters, and in the recent years their stunning graphics. I have only played the more well known ones. The first one I played was FFX on PS2, which was groundbreaking in terms of graphics back then. Others I have played and completed are FFI, FFII, FFVII, and FFX-2. I've stalled on FFXII, twice. There's something about FFXII that doesn't appeal to me and it doesn't help me to drive forward. My sister completed it and said she was disappointed how it felt rushed towards the end.

    As for FFXIII, I am not sure what to say at this very moment. Plot looks deep, and graphics are (needless to say really) breathtaking. Is it gonna be groundbreaking as we have hoped? Well let's hope it's worth the wait since this game has been under development for years, and it could be a catalyst for me and my sister to get a PS3 in the near future. Besides FFXII it's been a while since I've played any RPGs, and due to their time-consuming nature it may become apparent for me to play fewer and fewer of this genre nowadays (same thing can be said to other types of games though).

    Anyone looking forward to this game? I'm sure there are quite a few who will be :o

    1. I'm hoping against hope that the PS3 western version will have a dual language option and have the original theme song instead of the Leona Lewis one they are apparently putting into the game...

      If the Asia version has fully english translated text and subs, then I know where I'm getting my copy!

    2. Square Enix (Square Soft previously) never fails to impress with their RPG games. I've finished FFIII, FFIV, FFV, and FFX-2. I really like their character design more than anything...Yuna! There's definitely going to be some twists and turns in the plot for sure, but we won't be sure how deep this game is until we finish it two days later. ^^;;

      I'm not going to play it since I don't have a PS3. "orz

      My favourite game by Square Enix/Square Soft is Chrono Trigger. Definitely a breakthrough game. I have to say it's better than any FF game I've played.

    5. @Tommy: I guess you never played Valkyie Profile Silmeria, Infinite undiscovery or the last remnant?
      Silmeria was OK, but doesn't hold a candle to the original and the other 2 were turds!! Infinite undiscovery was also so short, I hesitate to call it an RPG!!

      Also, personally, I hated FFX and FFX-2

      @AstrayP03: Was changed a while ago to "TBA." as far as we know, development was put on hold until XIII was done. Due to the 360 version perhaps? they need manpower from somewhere...

    6. I still haven't finished FFXII... So far, I've enjoyed every FF (except XI), with X being my least favorite, VIII following close behind. I'd have to say that XII so far has been the best experience. I so need to get back to finishing that. I can't wait to play XIII, but I know if I play that before finishing XII, I'll NEVER get back to XII!

    8. @ gundamjehutykai:
      It's been a while since we had a FF game with dual language option. I almost forgot that the western version would have a different theme song, which I'm not used to after listeninng to it.

      It sounds ambitious for the Japanese version to have English as well (unless there's another International version), but we will see :o

      @ Tommy:
      You finished FFX-2 (a sequel) before FFX?

      After talking to my sister, it appears that we will plan to buy a PS3 Slim soon or later (as she wants to watch Blu-Ray in addition to gaming), so we may get FFXIII as well. Haven't tried other games from Square, so I don't know much about them unfortunately orz. And many RPGs I've played are quite time-consuming -_-;;

      @ AstrayP03:
      Yea as gundamjehutykai has mentioned, it's being put back to "TBA". Square-Enix does not always keep to their release dates afaik.

      @ Snark:
      Would you want it more than Billy to appear in your next SRW game? (laughs)

      Jokes aside, I do hope FFXIII to be a fabulous game. However I probably will stay back and wait for the reviews first to hear the first opinion.

      @ radiantdreamer:
      Argh I need to finish FFXII too! T_T

      X was the first FF game I've tried, so it's okay for me. XII sure has great atmosphere and environment. The plot on the other hand doesn't drive me well, and it's the black dog that keeps me from continuing >_<;

      @ GunStray:
      Usually, each FF game is seperate from others (with its own story and characters). Therefore you don't have to worry about being so lost in it.

    9. I don't play FF but Lightning sure looks like a cutie in that screenshot :D.And yea, the graphics are stunning that it is almost disturbingly realistic...

      ReplyDelete
    10. ahhh... guess I'll have to wait a lil' longer =(

    11. @ Z:
      Lightning does have have a nice charm on her look, and yes graphics are getting more and more breathtaking nowadays; some of the western FPS games are also getting pretty crazy in terms of graphics and realism too o_o;;

      @ AstrayP03:
      At least we now have the release dates - better to see something clearly in sight rather than waiting for something blindly!

      ReplyDelete
    12. I kinda want to get this right away because the main character's name is "Lightning" and a girl, but on the other hand I haven't finished a Final Fantasy game in a loooong time!

      ReplyDelete
    13. @ Lightning Sabre:
      I ought to finish XII at some point when I go back home... orz

      @ hirobot:
      Same! Will wait for the reviews first, but I do hope it's worth the wait!

    14. "You finished FFX-2 (a sequel) before FFX?"

      I didn't play FFX to be precise. :P

      I still had fun, and I like Gunner Yuna better than summoner. ^^

    15. @ Tommy:
      :O

      Interesting that you skipped FFX and played the sequel instead. To me, the two games have very different feel to it, despite having a lot of the background and monsters reused. While X is more serious, X-2 is a lot more lighthearted, and it took me some time to get used to it (including Yuna's attitude and costume) ^^;
