figma mods

Photobucket
figma modding is getting better and better, and they can be so good that's it can be hard to tell that they can be easily mistakened as official ones. Let's see some of the custom figmas that are mentioned on the official figma blog~

Photobucket
An original character made out of Shana and Miku, now looking really dark and hardcore~ ^^

Photobucket
figma Ultraman. My knowledge of Ultraman is rather poor so I don't know which one this is specifically...

Photobucket
Shiki Ryougi from Kara no Kyoukai, a light novel series from Type-Moon that got adapted into an anime movie series

Photobucket
Yomi Isayama (諌山黄泉) from anime and manga series Ga-rei.

Photobucket
Fate in True Sonic Form!

Photobucket
Found this Shana familiar? Yep it's yui_style's Shana that I mentioned a while ago.

Btw the meronpan there is not real; it's actually a look-alike toy/replica. Not only does it look like a real one, it feels like one and even smells like one too! o_O

Photobucket
Another great work by yui_style which I've also mentioned - figma Lacus Clyne.

Some of the more well known custom figma work are from 盗賊長門の人:
Photobucket
Taiga Aisaka from anime and light novel series Toradora! I personally find her face a tad bit off, but it's nevertheless a great work.

Photobucket
Kyon's sister from the Haruhi franchise. This one looks just like her in the anime o_o......

Photobucket
The SOS-dan girls in their RPG attire. With Haruhi being the exception (as she comes with a PS2 game), Thief Nagato and Mage Mikuru are both custom made according to how they look like in the game!

With so many great custom figmas out there, it can be quite hard for me to find my favourite (okay Fate in True Sonic form if I were to be biased ^^;). What will your favourite be, or is there another one out there that's yet to be mentioned? Share your thoughts!

  3. I'll take a thief Yuki and the Shana/Miku hybrid to go please XD I think there should be a Taiga figma too.

Haha it does seem like that after gunpla and normal plamo the most modding I've seen now is the figma~

As for the Ultraman, it is modded by やるき30%さん (Yaruki30%) using the archetype:he figma. It also appeared in the Tokyo International Anime Fair back in March.

    @ zenical:
    If I'd ever do any modding, I think I only have the guts to do some on 1/144 gunpla at the most... -_-;;

    @ Persocom:
Nagato thief is really well made - the maker is continuously improving it from time to time. And Shana/Miku hybrid reminds me of Black Rock Shooter~

I can see a Taiga figma coming soon or later - should only be a matter of time I hope.

  6. Added you to my BlogRoll btw. ^_^

I kinda wish MaxFactory would consider trying to buy out those customs figmas and selling them. I would love to get Kyon's sister figma.

I've also seen a Kunkida one. Hehe

  7. Oh dear lord! I WANT THAT KYON NO IMOUTO FIGMA! So it is doable... I'm curious how she was made shorter than the other figma...

  8. I am proud to say that upon seeing the custom Fate figma, I touched myself.

Both SOS RPG girls are really well made. I'm sure lots of people would want them too!

    @ blood on the mirror:
Thanks! Will add you to mine very soon~

Some of the mods are really well made, and are at least on par with the current official ones. I suspect that the ones such as Taiga will be released soon or later.

    @ Lightning Sabre:
I've got the link of the maker's making progress for you here~

    @ Snark:
Haha as a Fate fanboy, the True Sonic Form has made my day~ ^^

  10. @Q: Oooh thanks for the link! Really explain things... but I wish I had the actual ambition for that or I would make one myself ^^:

  11. Wow there are some great modifications among them!
I always wonder how they are capable of this stuff

  12. @ Lightning Sabre:
    No problem~

Doing a complete mod is quite ambitious. On the other hand, something like converting Shana's winter uniform to summer uniform, or just adding the necklace to her pendant and adding the ahoge are much more doable. If you do want to try some modding you can always start out small and let it grow big ^^

    @ Blowfish:
Some of the mods do look quite ambitious, but I think the essence behind their work is passion.

Spending some time on what they like to do from time to time, even if it's just half an hour or so, but eventually they will all contribute to the end product, and they won't give up on their interest. It's quite something I have to say :o

  14. @ modelcitizen:
Ryougi Shiki is pretty well done, abeit being a little overlooked. I wonder whether Max Factory will make one to promote the upcoming final movie. Have yet to watch the movies though...

  15. OH MY GOD!! DO WANT!!

  16. @ sammisu:
Me too, especially the Fate one (personally)! XD

  17. Does anyone know of the creators and if they take commissions?

    ReplyDelete
  18. @ Lotus:
To be honest I doubt any of the modders there will take commisions.

From what I have observed some mods such as those from 盗賊長門の人 use a lot of material to make his own custom figmas, which includes a lot of molding of new parts. I know yui_style (aka Yui) makes his from existing figmas, so you can try make them yourself if you are confident with it. I know there is another blogger out there who was inspired by his work and is making his own too. You can check out his blog and ask for advice there.

  19. That's quite a shame if they don't possibly take commissions. As, I would pay generously for a nice custom figure.

Since, there are quite a few favorite anime series of mine that literally have no figures at all. Which is very upsetting.

Sorry for the late reply. Have you tried making contacts with any people, including the twinstarcustom one I've posted above? It won't hurt for you to just ask or comment on their blogs I think.
