figma Racing Miku 2011

Photobucket
At last, after six months of waiting sicne its annoucement, the figma Racing Miku 2011 is ready for pickup!

Photobucket
To sum things up, every year (since 2009) there is Miku as a mascot and a race queen for the GSR (GoodSmile Racing) & Studie with TeamUKYO team. This year the team has won one of the races, and the figma is made to celebrate it.

The figma is available in 4 different "sponsor courses" in NicoNico webshop, and the goodies that come with it have arrived a month earlier.

Here are all of the stuff that are available in the box:
The figma itself, a closed parasol, open parasol, a sign board, one extra face, two trophies (the clear one as a bonus item that is packed sperately from the box), 4 pairs of hands, a figma standard and a bag for storage.

Back view. The skirt itself is slightly transparent.

Viewed from the sides. Depsite having heels Racing Miku can stand pretty well by herself, so balance is not so much of an issue there.

A race queen parasol.

Racing Miku with the parasol opened. The tube can separate from the canopy so that the hands can go in.

Photobucket
The signboard. A special pair of hands is required to hold it. You can put what you want on the signboard with the stickers provided in the box.

Photobucket
And the stickers for the signboard. There are 4 for each kind so you don't have to worry too much about spares.

Here is how the signboard works from a pre-release preview on figma blog:
In the picture "P-IN, L18, 04" means "car number 4 pit in at lap 18".

And yes the trophies themselves. The clear one comes separately from the figma box as a bonus item, and it has "Goodsmile" and Champion 2011 GT 300" printed on it. The other one has "Goodsmile Racing" and its logo printed on it.

A final picture with original figma Miku, Racing Miku, and Miku Append. Which one do you like the most?

This Racing Miku has taken a more mature appearance over previous years', and also over most other Miku variations. She also has a somewhat cyber looking view with a hint of transparency in the clothings, which add to the sexiness of the design.

There isn't too much to complain about, but the main problem is that many parts are a bit loose, be it some of the hands, or even the front hair piece when the cheerful face is used. Hopefully that is just the problem with my paritcular figma, but it's hard to say. Apart from that and the money one has to pay to get this, this is a pretty neat figma I'd say, even though I don't pay much attention towards racing in general. Well, maybe we'll see a new one next year? The nendoroid will definitely be in, but we'll see if there's another figma as well too (this 2011 version is a first timer for a figma). :o

  1. Very nice review and love the poses. The outfit is quite - fetching, but does mirror the what the Race Queens' wear.

I didn't get into the Figma's too much. I have gotten some Revoltech's now and they seem quite similar.

  2. I like her pose with the checkered flag. I'm impressed that she can stand up by herself without the stand. It would be great if all figmas and nendoroids could do that, especially when it comes to photographing them.

Thanks for the comment! The outfit is quite revealing and arousing in a way, such as the semi-transparent skirt or the tight fit appearance, which are indeed some of the features of a race queen.

Some Revoltech figures do share similar size with figmas. Often I see blogs have sketches involving figmas and Revoltech ones together!

    @ Nopy:
    Racing Miku's hands can't hold onto the race flag very tightly, but otherwise I actually put relatively little effort on posing her ^^;

Having figures getting to stand by themselves without support is always a big plus for me, and I wasn't expecting Racing Miku to do so in the first place! I only use the stand for poses that are much more unbalanced.

While it's hard for nendoroids to stand by themselves due to their tiny feet, having other figures such as figmas to do so is always great, as it makes things seem more natural and also great for photography as you've said!

  4. This is the most mature looking Miku to me. You got this from the pre-order that comes with the trophy?

  5. Wow this racing Miku is quite impressive. All those accessories, and even a sticker sheet. I really like the parasols, and the way her hair sort of curls in. I've got to say, I think this is the best looking Racing Miku so far.

The figma has to be pre-ordered and I have to get it via a proxy shop. The clear trophy is an extra for all those who have pre-ordered the figma, and it seems to be announced and added much later on so it's not packed in the box but separately in a polybag.

    @ Persocom:
Despite the price tag and that some joints are a tad loose, this is a pretty nice figma to have. Each tail on the hair are actually made of two parts with one crosses over another.

The 2011 design is definitely my most preferred designs so far, though 2009 comes quite closely behind. I'm quite glad that there's a figma for it finally as the previous versions were only available as nendoroids. I am curious to see how this year's will look like!

  7. I think her cheerful racing face is one of the sweetest faces of hers so far. But her mature append face is also a nice variation.

I wonder, can the faces can be swapped and shared between the three figures?

    The cheerful face is comparable to another web order only Miku Cheer Japan version, but this one has a more mature shape to it. Coincidently, some people use this face for re-enact the "死刑" (execution) illustration. ^^;

The faces of first Miku and Miku Append are interchangeable. Racing Miku's faces can be applied on the previous figma Mikus and vice versa, though they don't seem to fit in as well as I have hoped for.

  9. What about just switching the head of the racing miku and the append? I'm thinking about mixing them? Racing miku's chest part is just too un-natural? The append looks better.

It's possible to swap the heads as the neck joints are identical. I think that Racing Miku 2011 has a more mature look overall, hence her body shape (and her face) takes up a form that most people are not familiar with. Afterall it's the younger looking Miku with slightly-curved out chest is what we are used to.
