Ever wanted to get a wooden Zaku II model? Well here's a Char's Zaku II wooden sculpture for you to 'consider'.

34mm tall, 25mm wide. All wood-made. Comes with a bazooka and heat hawk. Bazooka can also be stored at the back.

First mentioned in Chara Hobby 2009 I think. Hand sculpted from high class natural wood and made in China.

Head and shoulder seem to have limited articulation, despite being a wooden sculpture.

To be released in late Feburary 2010, retail price 99750 Yen (tax inclusive) @_@

For something at such premium price, this Char's Zaku wooden sculpture is definitely not for ordinary collectors. Not exactly sure what kind of wood is used but it doesn't seem like cheap material to charge that much. On the other hand, I did hear from some people in ToysDaily forum how it's not environmental friendly to own something like this as it's using expensive wood when climate change is already an issue.

Perhaps ideal for a decoration item for a washitsu? Worship Char's Zaku II and hope you can do everything 3 times faster? XD

  2. That's outstanding! And oddly enough, I kinda like the proportions, even though they're a bit off.

  3. It's probably some sort of really soft wood, maybe from a rainforest? O_o

I think the next best material to use would be cork. You can get some wicked good detail in that stuff.

  4. Definitely a cool Zaku, but at that price OUCH!

I do like the fact it comes with accessories

There are things that are simply out of reach for us ordinary people orz

    @ Apt-1B:
Its stubby appearance is kinda old-school, which is something a lot of older fans like. Hence I think this particular sculpture is targeted for people who have been into the Gundam franchise for a very long time. :o

    @ radiantdreamer:
I doubt it's rainforest wood, as that can pump the price even higher up (and even less environmentally friendly). The wood is likely to have come from China.

    @ Bluedrakon:
With that price I can buy around 8-9 of the ALTER Fate Shin Sonic Form that I just got last month @_@

The bazooka and heat hawk are some nice touch indeed. If they used material that's more affordable then the price won't be so steep, but I think this sculpture is originally intended for BIG fans afterall.

  6. For a "hard to move" Zaku like that 100k yen would be a real pain in the **s.

But hey, i wonder who's willing to get such expensive item?

  7. The wood is most definitely not soft wood. That much I can tell.

I think it's not so much the material as the market, otaku market is a niche market after all and everything is inflated.

I think only die hard fans will go for such items. Not something that ordinary people like me would like to grasp.

    @ gndynames:
I actually think the material contributes a large part to the price, and it's mahogany apparently, so that won't be some random cheap wood for sure. Won't like to comment much on the market though.

  9. I think I would rather get the Sagittarius object plated with real gold for that price. At least that one is shiny and stuff. But really...99,000 yen for a wooden Zaku that's crafted in China. I wonder how much the mark up is...unless it's made from some tree from the Amazon Jungle.

  10. @ Tommy:
With that price I am sure I too can go for something else that would be just as decent (if not better). As I replied to gndynames, mahogany is not some random cheap wood, as some of the decent and expensive woodcrafts are made from them. There will be some people out there who will buy one, but it is one's own decision to buy this or not according to his/her own taste.

    We simply can't guess what kind of thing will crop out for anime merchandise or general goods from time to time - they can be very random or bizzare sometimes ^^;
